How do link directories have high pagerank?
Q. I've been running around submitting my site to free search engine directories and I noticed that they all have PR=5 or higher despite the fact that they have so many out-links. And, I don't know of many sites that link back to link directory sites. So I don't get it, how do they have good pagerank? Also, is it even worth my time submitting my site to them? Are they actually going to make any difference in my site's rank?
Asked by R - Wed Jul 22 00:18:59 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Submitting to directories does not give a direct result. It may takes like 3 to 6 months to have impact on your site. If you link to a directory with page rank 5 but under a category of none page rank that might be the cause your site rank doesn't coming up. Free directory usually offer submission that may take a long time to approve your site submission. Don't be surprise some of the may take up to more than a month to approve and worst case is rejecting your submission.

Can a link to my website from Wikipedia hurt my PageRank at Google?
Q. A lot of questionable websites use content from Wikipedia. These sites would also link to my website.
Asked by M. D. H. - Thu Dec 4 18:10:09 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Since WikiPedia is a public space, which can be spammed, WikiPedia makes all outgoing links "nofollowed" meaning there is no "PageRank juice" which flows outward. As long as your link profile is solid, a link can't hurt you. If it could, you could focus on bad links to your competitor's sites.

A. To get good pagerank you need a website design thats search engine friendly, have a sitemap, and lots of one way links from quality sites. To get ranked high in Google you need good pagerank, fresh unique content, and your keywords in your meta tags, header, opening paragraph, and footer. Also its good to inlcude your keywords in your anchor text from the sites linking to you. I myself use the Internet Business Promoter software and it helps greatly. What programming Language is Google PageRank written in?
Q. Just curious about how Google delivers such quick results and which language enables them to do that and write their amazing algorithm. therefore that language must be a very good language, if not the best. Anybody know? thank
Asked by JB - Thu Sep 4 07:17:48 2008 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. It has little to do with the language being used, the infrastructure is more important. Googles infrastructure is basically spreading its index over multiple servers, hence the reason as of why google never seam to time out, despite how many uses google as their search engine. Their own about page: I would say that they are more likely to use multiple languages, then rely on a single language alone.

Q. I have a page on my site that others embed into their website using an iframe. I have a link on the page directed back to my site. Will this count as a link to my site? When other people embed the page into their site will it help my rank on search engines? And if it doesn't count as a link when people embed the page into their site how do I change the programming to make it so it does?

A. Plug the url of the iframe into Google to see if it has been indexed. If it is indexed then the link will count if it isn't then it will not count.

Asked by CollectToyManiac.com - Thu Oct 25 10:15:50 2007 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. No Most forums have pagerank sharing disabled on their user pages, and if they don't then they should. Lots of spammers sign up to forums just so they can steal some of that site's pagerank. It is bad for the site because google punish people for linking to "bad neighbourhoods" that try to manipulate google's pagerank algorithm.

What does Google "PageRank not available" mean?
Q. I created a blog of one page on Blogger back in July 2008. I don't have any traffic. My page is indexed in Google, but what does Google "PageRank not available" mean? How can I get Google to say PageRank of "0/10" at least to start instead of "PageRank not availabe?"
Asked by Andy - Wed Jan 28 11:00:30 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Page Rank not available means that the website or webpage you are viewing has not been rated by google yet. I don't think you'd be able to change the notification message to 0/10. Because, if it is shown 0/10, it means that the page has been analysed and ranked the least. And hence the notification of unranked pages is "PageRank not available".

Q. How, if at all, does a site's PageRank affect its SEO performance?
Asked by Quel - Fri May 23 22:32:57 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. PageRank is developed by creating links from other web pages back to your site, which should be a part of your SEO. PageRank and SEO are not separate. Building PageRank is one method you employ when optimizing your site. The importance of PageRank becomes evident when two individuals or companies are competing within the same niche. Offering the same product, service, opportunity, etc. If the content of their respective webpages are more or less the same, and they are similarly optimized, the site with the higher PageRank will rank better (more consistently) than the other. If you have a website or blog, you should definitely be building your link popularity. If someone tells you that PageRank is not important, then don't listen to… [cont.]

Do links from social media/networking websites (Facebook, Linkedin, Youtube) help increase your pagerank?
Q. I work for a small electronics company and am wondering if building a group page on LinkedIn would help our search engine optimization? When someone joins your group, does the link to your site on their page help increase your number of inbound links?
Asked by SaraGirlNY - Thu Jul 17 11:45:30 2008 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments

A. There are some social networks which will help your PR because they have not made the links on their sites nofollow. Linked In Q&A articles, Yahoo Answers and You Tube frequently show up in Google's SERP's so it is worth the time to develop company profiles on Linked In and You Tube. Facebook is questionable depending on your target demographic. Though most of the popular social networking sites won't help you with SEO to your site, they could rank themselves in the top 10 results, driving traffic and increasing your shelf space, so not a waste of time to use them.

How does Google PageRank work? Why do I have PR 0?

I clicked on "submit url" to google and yahoo so it could be included in their searches. I checked the Google Page Rank of my site. It has a PR of zero. According to what I've read, this is not really normal. Most sites with ANY content should have a 3 or better. (Am I right or did I misinterpret?) Anyway, what can I do to improve my PR? A. Hey Tim, PageRank is often misunderstood. Here are some main points: 1) PageRank is figured per PAGE not per SITE 2) PageRank is Google's measure of the authortativeness of the page 3) To protect their market, Google displays pagerank that is 3-5 months old. So, with the above information, your new site has a PageRank of 0 because it was not in existence 3-5 months ago. To increase the PageRank, you will want to seek links to your website from trusted places. Since you have an educational themed site, links from schools (.edu) would be a huge benefit. Also, Google updates the PageRank on the toolbar about once a quarter. They just did an update, so the next one will be in about three months. You can see the article below for… [cont.]

A. Well, first you need to understand what pagerank is. Pagerank displays the level of importance in terms of links. Why? Because if your blog really is good, people will link to it. So the more number of links you have, the higher your pagerank. The only way to increase pagerank is to increase the number of links pointing to your blog. To get those links, there are a number of ways. One of the easiest and fastest, is my writing articles about topics that is related to your blog, and then post those articles in article forums or websites. If you have a little budget, use an automatic system that will send your articles to plenty of article websites.
